Bellator lightweight Melvin Guillard posts graphic photo of hand, post-surgery

Melvin Guillard was forced to undergo surgery on his “shattered” right hand following an unsuccessful Bellator debut this past month.

That surgery is complete, and Guillard proved as much when he posted a graphic photo of his hand on Instagram, loaded with pins and stitches, after the procedure was done.

My money maker is back doesn't look like much now but the doctor just notified me that my baby is back.$$$$

Guillard’s (34-14-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) Bellator debut did not go according to plan. The former UFC lightweight contender dropped a split decision to handpicked opponent Brandon Girtz (13-4 MMA, 5-3 BMMA) in the main event of Bellator 141 for his third defeat in four fights. Girtz’s combination of punching power and explosive takedowns gave Guillard fits for the majority of the contest. The 32-year-old nearly scored a finish in the final minutes of the 155-pound contest, but throughout most of the fight his strike count was below the norm.

Guillard was transported to hospital after the contest in order to have his hand casted. He was required to rest for number of days so swelling could settle before surgery could fix the damage.

“The Young Assassin” did not reveal a timeframe for when he’ll be recovered from the injury and able to return to competition. However, fractures of the hand typically take around six weeks to heal.
