Bellator 65 Update: Cole Konrad-Eric Prindle Title Fight Postponed, Undercard Announced

Bellator Fighting Championships heavyweight titleholder Cole Konrad will not square off with Eric Prindle as expected this Friday at Bellator 65.

Prindle, reportedly suffering from a hand injury, tweeted news of the change Tuesday, announcing that the contest will now take place May 25 at Bellator 70. No location has been revealed for the event.

Prindle was named Bellator’s Season 5 heavyweight tournament winner by default after a series of unfortunate developments. The American originally met Thiago Santos in the tournament final this past November, but that bout was ruled a no-contest following a low blow that left Prindle unable to continue.

The heavyweights were then slated to rematch at Bellator 61 last month, but Prindle came down with flu-like symptoms which pushed back the fight one week. However, Bellator 62 would not house the fight either, as Santos failed to make the heavyweight limit at the pre-fight weigh-ins. As a result, Bellator officials announced Prindle as Konrad’s first challenger.

Despite losing the heavyweight title clash, Bellator 65 will still see one champion defend his belt, as Zach Makovsky will put his bantamweight strap on the line against Eduardo Dantas at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Also featuring two bantamweight tournament quarterfinals and a featherweight semifinal matchup pitting Mike Corey against Daniel Straus, the evening’s main card airs on MTV2 and Epix.

Promotion officials also announced Tuesday that a pair of pivotal welterweight attractions will highlight the undercard. UFC veteran Kris McCray locks horns with American Top Team representative Ailton Barbosa, while former Bellator champion Lyman Good faces five-year pro LeVon Maynard.

Also featured will be a trio of featherweight confrontations, as Kenny Foster, Scott Heckman and Andy Main toe the line against Jay Haas, Lester Caslow and Will Martinez, respectively. Rounding out the preliminary proceedings on Spike.com will be a lightweight contest between Mikhail Malyutin and E.J. Brooks and a middleweight scrap pitting Duane Bastress against Plinio Cruz.
