B.J. Penn: Leaving Las Vegas

There could be major problems on the horizon for current UFC lightweight B.J. Penn. He has more or less stated that his distaste for the Nevada State Athletic Commission and it’s head honcho, Keith Kizer, has turned him off from fighting in Nevada ever again. Penn’s decision is more than likely motivated by the fact that the NSAC has heard but not taken any action on his “Grease-gate” case against Georges St. Pierre.

In Penn’s latest video blog he responds to fan questions, including his ongoing case against welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre heard by the NSAC. Penn makes it clear that, “It’s Nevada’s commission. They can do whatever they want…” but for him personally, “Keith Kizer can’t be trusted. I don’t trust him in any way.”

Most disconcerting about Penn’s recent declaration to stay out of Nevada is the fact that the UFC is headquartered there. The UFC also holds the majority of their events in Las Vegas. While the UFC is traveling more frequently than recent years, it can be assumed that Penn’s statement will not go over too well with UFC executives.

Thankfully with Penn’s title fight against Kenny Florian set for August in Philadelphia, the situation between Penn, the NSAC, and the UFC executives has not become too arduous as of yet.
