Alistair Overeem and Five More MMA Fighters Who Failed Drug Tests: A Fan's View (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

By Eric Holden,

According to a Yahoo! Sports report, UFC President Dana White was extraordinarily angry at Alistair Overeem for failing a random drug screen prior to his scheduled fight against Junior dos Santos.

"He lied straight to our faces," White said in the report. "That has me so [expletive] angry, I can't even tell you. He said to us, 'The last thing you have to worry about is me popping. I'm the most-tested athlete in the world.' Yeah, [expletive] right."

Here's a look at five more MMA fighters who failed random drug tests or post-fight screenings:

Chael Sonnen: UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone following his UFC 117 title bout against Anderson Silva.

Sonnen says he fully disclosed his testosterone therapy treatments to the commission that oversees the fights, and says its off-base to accuse him of taking steroids. "I don't know anybody really that thinks I was on steroids," he says. "If they do, I want an offer of an explanation or an apology. The facts were the facts. That's between me and the commission, and we dealt with it."

Cris Santos: In early-2012, Santos, one of the top pound-for-pound women's MMA fighters in the world, tested positive for an anabolic steroid following her knockout victory over Hiroko Yamanaka at the Strikeforce: Melendez vs Masvidal event. As a result of the positive steroid test, Santos was stripped of her belt and suspended for a year. The victory over Yamanaka was also changed to a No Contest.

Nate Marquardt: In 2011, Marquardt was fired from the UFC for testing positive for high testosterone levels prior to his scheduled fight in the main event of UFC on Versus 4. He explained in an interview on the MMA Hour that the high testosterone levels were caused by hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that was recommended by his primary care physician.

Nick Diaz: Diaz failed a drug test following his loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143, but it was for marijuana use and not steroids.

"I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana. It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission," UFC President Dana White said." Diaz also failed a drug test for marijuana use following his 2007 victory over Takanori Gomi at a Pride Fighting Championship event.

Melvin Guillard: UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard tested positive for Benzoylegonine, a major metabolite of cocaine, following his loss to Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 on April 5th, 2007. Apparently the levels of cocaine in his system were so high that he is believed to have been still under the influence of the drug during the fight.
