Alan Jouban promises to finish 'Jersey Shore reject' Mike Perry at UFC on FOX 22

Alan Jouban clearly isn’t intimidated by the ways of UFC “newbie” Mike Perry, who he will face in a welterweight bout at UFC on FOX 22 in December.

Perry (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has plenty of reason to instill fear in opponents. He’s earned all nine of his career wins by knockout, six in the first round, including brutal back-to-back finishes to kick off his UFC career. He will try to do the same in his third octagon appearance, but Jouban (14-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) said he has other plans.

“It’s going to be a barnburner – we’re going to want to take each other out before the closing bell,” Jouban said while co-hosting the MMA H.E.A.T. podcast. “He’s a bit of a newbie to the UFC – he’s only had two fights in the UFC, but both of his fights have been within three months of each other. … He’s 9-0 with nine knockouts, so he’s a fun guy to watch, and he’s a big (expletive) talker, so it’s actually working out. He’s not the name or the ranking that I wanted, but he’s another guy that will generate a lot of buzz.”

UFC on FOX 22 takes place Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The card airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Although Jouban has put together a solid UFC career thus far by winning five of seven fights with the promotion, Perry has made significant waves in and out of the octagon in the matter of just two fights.

From his thunderous first-round finish of Hyun Gyu Lim on the highest selling pay-per-view main card in UFC history at UFC 202 to his gruesome third-round knockout of Danny Roberts at UFC 204 earlier this month, “Platinum” has exploded on to the radar in a hurry.

Moreover, the questionable antics of his corner during his UFC debut, a shady social media history and a bold face tattoo make Perry a polarizing character to most fans.

Perry clearly isn’t afraid to cause a stir with his approach to life and the sport. And when he came after Jouban on social media shortly after their fight was made official, “Brahma” immediately made it clear he wouldn’t back down.

Jouban elaborated on Perry’s personality during his podcast, comparing him to a cast member of the formerly popular MTV reality series “Jersey Shore.” He admitted the talk is all in good fun from his perspective but said Perry’s trashtalk makes it significantly easier to get out of bed every day and train to deliver the performance of a lifetime at UFC on FOX 22.

“I definitely watched all the seasons of ‘Jersey Shore,’ I was a fan,” Jouban said. “He reminds me of all the ‘Jersey Shore’ guys. He didn’t make it into the house (for the show).

“He talks a lot of trash. We’ve been going back-and-forth on Twitter. But at the end of the day, it’s bringing attention to the fight. It’s making me want to punch him in the face a lot more than when I found out I’m going to be fighting him.”
