After Capturing KOTC Title, Josh Paiva Goes Back to His Day Job… Inspecting Nuclear Plants

Recently crowned King of the Cage junior flyweight champion Josh Paiva has taken an unconventional route to his success, but that is just par for the course for him.

At 22 years old, Pavia works as a traveling nuclear plant inspector, and it’s on the road where he gets most of his fight training in.

As unusual as it is, it works for him as he’s currently undefeated at 4-0 with his recent win over highly regarded prospect Zach Lari at KOTC: Unprecedented on Aug. 17.

“My whole training camp was pretty solid and I was able to manage a travelling job schedule with training. Then I took three weeks off work just to top everything off with getting in shape and focusing on the fight,” said Paiva

“The fighting part is easy. It’s just a reflection of what I’ve been doing in the gyms. My trainers and coaches have been doing their part and preparing me really well.”

While parts of his bout with Lari didn’t go as planned, Paiva managed to take control of the fight en route to a fourth-round TKO stoppage.

“I was initially preparing a stand-up battle, but it ended up being a real tight fight, everything was inside fighting,” said Paiva. “I got taken down a couple of times, but I can’t tell you how many times I took him down.

“I dominated him. The first round was a little bit closer, but the second and third were a complete domination, and the fourth I topped it all off with the knockout via suplex.”

With the win, Paiva joins the list of talented young KOTC champions like Lowen Tynanes and Sean Strickland. And like those fighters, he’s looking to defend his title and continue his winning ways in 2013

“I feel like I’m on the right path,” Paiva told MMAWeekly.com. “I’ve been stepping on the right stones at the right times and the right opportunities. I feel like this is my destiny.

“I guess I’ll wait for someone to try to take my title. Until then I’ll get back in training and have some fun and go to work.”
