'UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz' now has a Las Vegas venue

Next year’s “UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz” event now has a venue.

When UFC officials announced the card in July, they said the pay-per-view event would take place in Las Vegas but didn’t disclosed a venue.

However, this past week, while announcing a Nov. 17 unveiling of the 2015 fight schedule, the promotion confirmed MGM Grand Garden Arena as event host.

UFC 183 takes place Jan. 31. Former longtime middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) and ex-Strikeforce titleholder Nick Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) meet in the five-round headliner.

MGM Grand Garden Arena is a frequent stop for the UFC. In fact, the Las Vegas Strip arena played host to Silva’s most recent fight: a rematch and loss to middleweight champ Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December 2013. Silva broke his leg in the fight and returns after a yearlong layoff at UFC 183.

Diaz, meanwhile, most recently fought at UFC 158 in 2013, when he suffered a title loss to then-welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre in Montreal.

The latest UFC 183 card includes:

  • Nick Diaz vs. Anderson Silva
  • Thiago Alves vs. Jordan Mein
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Thales Leites
  • Diego Brandao vs. Jimy Hettes
  • Andy Enz vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos
  • Ildemar Alcantara vs. Richardson Moreira
