The UFC’s traditional pre-event show returns Wednesday with the debut of “Countdown to UFC 184: Rousey vs. Zingano” on FOX Sports 1.
The one-hour special previews the card’s headlining bout between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and top contender Cat Zingano (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC).
“Countdown” airs at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday (6 p.m. PT), and replays will air throughout this week and next week leading up to the fight.
Rousey will defend her 135-pound title for the fifth time in the UFC and sixth time overall since winning it with a first-round submission of Miesha Tate in Strikeforce nearly three years ago. Rousey has gone out of the first round one time, but still got her famed armbar submission in that fight, a rematch with Tate at UFC 168. She’ll be fighting for the first time since a 16-second knockout win over Alexis Davis at UFC 175 this past July.
Zingano earned her top contender status with a TKO win over Tate at the TUF 17 Finale. That win gave her a coaching spot on “TUF 18? and the title shot. But she blew out her knee, leading to a lengthy rehab, and had to vacate the “TUF” role, as well as the fight at UFC 168. Upon her return this past fall, after nearly a year and a half without a fight, she stopped Amanda Nunes with a third-round TKO to put herself back into the title fight with the champion, who has fought three times since Zingano first earned her next-in-line status.
UFC 184 takes place Feb. 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
