Lawler was on a 5 fight win streak and defended the UFC welterweight title 2 times before being KO'd by Tyron Woodley on July 30th at UFC 201.
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone has looked incredible since moving up to welterweight in February, stopping all 3 of his opponents and winning performance of the night bonuses in every fight. A win over Robbie Lawler could earn Cerrone a title shot at welterweight, and it would be less than one year after losing a title fight at lightweight against Rafael Dos Anjos.
This will the 39th fight for both Cowboy and Lawler. Cowboy is 33 years old, Lawler is 34. Cowboy started fighting in 2006 and Lawler began in 2001.
16 of Cowboy's 31 wins are by submission, that's 52% of his wins. 20 of Lawler's 27 wins are by KO or TKO, that's 74% of wins.
