Although the most talked about confrontation of the moment is between Silva and Georges St-Pierre, the fans have made it clear that their ideal fight would be the Brazilian against Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight king. To Distak, the strategy for beating Jon Jones is still unknown due to one reason.
"Actually, we have not seen Jon Jones on his back,” Distak said. “Vitor (Belfort) got his arm; he had the opportunity. Actually Jones is unpredictable. To me the strategy to do a fight with him would involve finding out how he fights on his back."
Distak also discussed the possibility of an Octagon meeting between Silva and X-Gym teammate Souza, which could become a reality if Strikeforce shuts down following its Jan. 12 event as expected. In a recent interview, Souza said that making such a bout happen would depend on the feelings of the “Spider.” However, Distak revealed that the two fighters had a conversation and decided together that it would be impossible.
"I can guarantee you that it will never happens because we have an honor code. None of the top fighters will fight each other.” Distak said. “Jacaré and Anderson already had a long talk after Jacaré gave that interview, and they decided together that this fight will never happen. Team Nogueira and X-Gym will never face each other. It´s totally impossible for Rafael Feijão to face (Antonio Rogerio Nogueira), Jacare to face Anderson or (Junior dos Santos) to face (Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira). Our honor code says that betrayers don't stay in our team. "
On the subject of Erick Silva, Distak said the loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 153 came at the right time. Since the Brazilian is still early in his career, the setback was easier to handle. Moreover, the coach also revealed a desire for a rematch between his athlete and the American.
"Jon Fitch again. This is the next opponent I wanted again. But this time I assure you it would be different," Distak said, comparing Erick Silva to St. Pierre, who was also defeated early in his road to a UFC title. “The most significant evolution of GSP’s career happened when he was beaten by Matt Serra. I´m sure the same will happen to Erick.”view original article >>
