It’s the fight MMA fans have been wanting for months, and it’s one the fighters even tried to have early with a little brawl in August.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) and Daniel Cormier (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) meet in the UFC 182 main event.
Jones and Cormier, who are respectively ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light heavyweight rankings, began the promotional push early for this title fight, which initially was slated for UFC 178 until Jones’ leg injury forced the rescheduling to early 2015.
But before the delay, Jones and Cormier were part of an on-stage (and off-stage) brawl at a media event in Vegas (watch it below), the subsequent “hot mics” incident afterward, and the eventual fallout and penalties with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
UFC 182 takes place Jan. 3 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The co-main event is a lightweight matchup between title contenders Donald Cerrone and Myles Jury.
