Video: Diego Sanchez on edge in push to 145 pounds, 'TUF' finalists pushed apart

MONTERREY, Mexico – The UFC brought together 20 fighters from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 78 event for Ultimate Media Day in Monterrey, Mexico, and a couple of fighters you may not have heard of just yet teased a bit of tension heading into their weekend fights.

The media sessions took place today at Monterrey’s Parque Fundidora, which borders Monterrey Arena, host site of Saturday’s event, which airs on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Welterweight headliners Kelvin Gastelum (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Neil Magny (16-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) were friendly enough during their time on the stage, though Magny’s distinct height advantage was on full display.

In the co-feature, Diego Sanchez (25-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) looked leaner than ever ahead of his first featherweight fight, and he was happy to get in right in the face of opponent Ricardo Lamas (15-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC). Ditto for lightweights Efrain Escudero (24-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) and Leandro Silva (18-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

The most spirited moment of the day came when “TUF: Latin America 2” lightweight finalists Enrique Barzola (10-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Horacio Gutierrez (2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) briefly came together, though UFC exec and former WEC boss Reed Harris was there to quickly calm the situation.

Check out the video above to see all of the face-offs, including flyweights Henry Cejudo (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) vs. Jussier Formiga (18-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC), the “TUF: Latin America 2” welterweight final of Enrique Marin (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Erick Montano (6-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), bantamweights Taylor Lapilus (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Erik Perez (14-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC), welterweights Bartosz Fabinski (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. Hector Urbina (17-8-1 MMA,1-0 UFC), bantamweights Scott Jorgensen (15-11 MMA, 4-7 UFC) vs. Alejandro Perez (15-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and featherweights Gabriel Benitez (18-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Andre Fili (14-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC).
