You can’t argue it all you want given the circumstances, but Khabib Nurmagomedov is the undisputed UFC lightweight champion. There’s also no disputing his spot at the top of the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings.

Nurmagomedov put on a dominant performance against Al Iaquinta this past Saturday at UFC 223 to claim the 155-pound title with a unanimous decision, this after “The Eagle” lost out on bouts with both Tony Ferguson and featherweight champion Max Holloway in a span of five days.

Nurmagomedov wasn’t perfect against Iaquinta, but given the fact that he took the fight on last-minute notice against the previous No. 13 and still dominated? Well, that was enough for him to leapfrog both Ferguson and Conor McGregor and claim the No. 1 spot in the lightweight rankings.

Nurmagomedov also moved up in the pound-for-pound rankings.
