According to Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the promotion Monday officially asked for the dates of Saturday, May 26, and Saturday, July 7, for pay-per-view events to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The request was issued through UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner.
Both dates fall in line with the type of schedule typically favored by the UFC, which traditionally holds fight cards around the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays. In 2011, UFC 130 “Rampage vs. Hamill” was held May 28, while UFC 132 “Cruz vs. Faber 2” took place July 2.
The May 26 event would be the third of the month for the Las Vegas-based organization. UFC on Fox 3 is set for May 5 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., with a lightweight bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller as the headliner. UFC on FX 3 will go down at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.; a main event has yet to be announced for that card.
As of now, no UFC events have been formally announced for July.
