UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes takes reality hunting show to Africa for four-part special

UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes has returned to TV – but as a hunter rather than a fighter.

The former UFC welterweight champion stars in a four-part series entitled “Uncaged with Matt Hughes,” which debuts on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. ET on Sportsman Channel.

The four-part series follows Hughes on a 14-day safari in Namibia, Africa, as the longtime hunter chases “waterbuck, gemsbok, red hartebeest and mountain zebra,” according to an official announcement.

“I spent a significant amount of time training for this trip, but nothing really prepares you for a big game hunt more than actually experiencing it, and that was definitely true in this case,” Hughes stated. “You just have to remain calm and remember what you know. This was a great experience, and I can’t wait to plan my next trip.”

“Uncaged with Matt Hughes” debuted earlier this year. According to the show’s official website, the series is “an unscripted reality show based on the life and hunting adventures of nine-time UFC welterweight champion, Matt Hughes. The show gives the audience an unprecedented look inside Matt’s life beyond the octagon as a husband, father and hunter. … The series is shown as it happens, with no acting or excessive recreates.”

Hughes (45-9 MMA, 18-7 UFC), 40, was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in May 2010, though he would go on to compete three more times for the promotion following the ceremony.
