Even without Conor McGregor, the UFC is quickly selling out cards in Ireland.
Announcing UFC Fight Night 76 during the promotion’s “Go Big” press conference in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White declared the fight card sold out in 60 seconds after going on sale today.
The event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass, takes place Oct. 24 at 3Arena in Dublin and features a lightweight pairing between Irish standout Joseph Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and veteran Dustin Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC).
Duffy might not carry McGregor’s star power, but does carry the distinction of being the last man to defeat “Notorious,” who unquestionably is Ireland’s biggest MMA product. He puts a two-fight win streak on the line against Poirier, a previous McGregor victim who moved to lightweight this year and has since rattled off two wins.
For what it’s worth, McGregor said he wanted to face former WEC champ Urijah Faber, his opposing coach on “The Ultimate Fighter 21,” in the headliner of the Oct. 24 event. But instead, he is booked for a much more significant fight, a title unifier against champ Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
It’s hard to imagine that McGregor won’t make an appearance in Dublin, where he fought several times as a champion in the Cage Warriors promotion. With or without him, though, the UFC’s fourth trip to the city is a success out of the gate, according to White.
