UFC Fight Night 65 results: Ben Nguyen stops Alptekin Ozkilic with one second left in first

ADELAIDE, Australia – Ben Nguyen was seen by many as a live underdog coming into his UFC Fight Night 65 bout with Alptekin Ozkilic. With one second left in the first round, he showed why.

The flyweight bout opened up the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 65 event at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Nguyen (14-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC0 opened the fight by working over Ozkilic’s (9-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) legs with kicks. Just over one minute into the fight Nguyen struck with a series of solid punches that dropped Ozkilic. When Nguyen was unable to end the fight with his follow-up flurry, Ozkilic got to his feet and scored a takedown.

With the fight on the floor, Ozkilic attempted to work a ground and pound game and land a few knees to the body as Nguyen used the cage to get back to his feet. Ozkilic began to score on the feet with counter left hands and seemed to be figuring out Nguyen’s striking game before Nguyen pressured him back to the cage and threw a flurry of strikes. A left hand to the chin of Ozkilic dropped him and allowed Nguyen to flurry with strikes and get the TKO at 4:59 of Round 1.

The victory was Nguyen’s eighth consecutive win. He earned his way to the octagon after an undefeated 2013 and 2014 that saw him score four stoppages in six fights.

Ozkilic has now dropped three fights in a row. He was victorious in his UFC debut at UFC on FOX 9, defeating Darren Uyenoyama by split decision but lost to Louis Smolka and John Lineker before facing Nguyen.
