KRAKOW, Poland – “TUF Brazil” finalist Sergio Moraes ended his bout with UFC newcomer Mickael Lebout in the place he wanted it – on the mat, sneaking toward a submission.
Although Lebout (13-4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) proved to be a surprisingly resilient challenge, Moraes (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC)made the best of it and worked at all ranges to secure a unanimous decision.
The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 64 event at Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
The final scores were unanimously 29-28 for Moraes, who slugged it out with Lebout when his efforts to take the fight down were fruitless. Although neither man was ever in danger of being finished, Moraes’ walked through persistent leg attacks to land winging punches against his opponent.
A flurry in the third frame provided the opening Moraes needed to get a takedown, and he deftly passed to mount and back control. But Lebout refused to be submitted and even reversed in the final seconds of the bout.
It was Moraes’ third straight win in the octagon. For Lebout, a six-fight win streak is snapped.
