UFC Fight Night 60 results, photos: James Moontasri chokes out Cody Pfister

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – James Moontasri got the UFC Fight Night 60 card off to a quick start.

Moontasri (8-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took it to Cody Pfister (11-4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) early and never let off, getting the finish in the second round with a rear-naked choke.

The catchweight bout (Moontasri failed to make weight) opened up the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 60 event at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo. It aired on FOX Sports 1 ahead of a main card on the same channel.

Moontasri managed to land a knee seconds into the bout, but Pfister pushed through the attack and began to work for the takedown. Moontasri shrugged off the attempts with his back against the cage and landed a knee that hurt his opponent.

The fight settled into a bit of a pattern with Pfister pushing Moontasri into the cage, working for the takedown, while Moontasri looked to land knees as opportunities presented themselves. This led to several moments when it appeared Pfister was on the verge of being finished, only to survive once again through desperate takedown attempts.

Moontasri would come out in the second and land another big knee to the face that seemed to take the fight out of Pfister. Moments later, the fighters went to the mat, where Moontasri took the back and locked in the choke for the win.

It was Moontasri’s first win in the UFC after dropping a split decision to Joe Ellenberger this past June in his debut in the promotion. The loss snapped an eight-fight unbeaten streak for Pfister, who was making his UFC debut.
