UFC Fight Night 59 results: Johnny Case grinds out, finishes Frankie Perez

BOSTON – Johnny Case saw two opponents withdraw from UFC Fight Night 59 and had little time to prepare for Frankie Perez.

In the end, though, the revolving door would make no difference for the returning Case (20-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who outfought Perez (12-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at every range before finishing the fight in the third frame.

The lightweight bout took place at today’s UFC Fight Night 59 event at Boston’s TD Garden. It was the second of six preliminary bouts to air on FOX Sports 1 ahead of main-card bouts on the same channel.

Case handed Perez his first professional loss while improving his UFC record to 2-0 following a submission win over Kazuki Tokudome this past September.

The fight’s official end came at the 1:54 mark of the third as Case wailed away with punches and elbows from mount. Perez, turned to his side, could do little to stop the onslaught.

Perez hoped on two occasions to catch Case napping with a leglock, but he instead wound up on his back, where his opponent kept dominant position and worked ground and pound.

A pair of straight rights put Perez on the defense in the third as Case swarmed forward. Nabbing a leg, he put Perez on the mat and rebuffed a submission attempt with a stiff elbow and then moved to mount.

Perez stepped in for the injured Francisco Trevino, who had replaced Paul Felder.
