UFC Fight Night 30 results: Cole Miller downs Ogle, calls out 'Colin McGoober'

MANCHESTER – In a rousing preliminary bout full of entertaining transitions and momentum shifts, Cole Miller outpaced a gritty Andy Ogle in the early going and held on in the final frame to earn a unanimous-decision win. But the highlight of his performance may have been on the mic.

The featherweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 30 event at Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England. It streamed on MMAjunkie.com ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 2.

As the shorter Ogle tried to manage a 10-inch reach disadvantage, Miller found a home for a powerful counter right hand that scored early and often in the first round. A wounded Ogle moved inside and secured a trip, but Miller quickly reversed his fortunes and slipped around to the back, where he constricted Ogle’s body with a figure-four around the waist. A game Ogle stayed active with punches to a rear-mounted Miller and avoided any submissions until the bell.

Despite his first-round struggles, Ogle went again for the takedown in the second. As Miller defended the effort, he snick his arm under the neck and latched in a nasty guillotine choke the seemed destined to tend the fight. However, the gritty Ogle somehow survived the hold and popped his head free, settling into top position. He wasn’t safe, as Miller kept active with submission attempts and then swept beautifully to the top in hopes of an armbar. With Ogle defending well again, Miller transitioned to the back in a non-stop barrage of grappling offense.

Down on the cards, Ogle came out swinging in the final round. “The Little Axe” scored with a few big hooks that cut Miller under the right eye before taking the fight again to the floor. Working from Miller’s guard, Ogle did his best work of the fight, pounding away with punches and elbows from the top. Ogle grinded away until the final bell, but ultimately came up short after dropping the first two frames.

Miller was awarded the decision win, 29-28 on all three cards.

Despite the judges appearing to get the score right, Miller decided to lambast the state of officiating in MMA while also calling out fast-rising Irish featherweight Conor McGregor.

“I don’t know what’s going in with these judges in mixed martial arts, ruining my last fight,” Miller said. “I don’t know what’s up with these European fighters, either. Ross Pearson couldn’t be beat. Andy Ogle couldn’t be beat. Dennis Siver can’t be beat. And you know what? Neither can ‘Colin McGoober,’ so bring it.”

Miller (20-8 MMA, 9-6 UFC) improves to 2-1 in his past three outings, with the lone loss coming in controversial fashion. Ogle (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) falls to 1-2 in the octagon.
