UFC Fight Night 28 Results: Piotr Hallmann Mounts Miraculous Comback to Stun Francisco Trinaldo

Piotr HallmannUFC Fight Night 28 featured a bout between two of the biggest fighters in the lightweight division when former 185-pound TUF: Brazil competitor Fransisco Trinaldo welcomed promotional newcomer Piotr Hallman to the Octagon.

The Polish fighter was riding a nine-fight winning streak in Europe, but faced a big step up in competition against the seasoned Brazilian, who entered the fight with a 3-1 UFC record.

Hallman pawed away with the jab early, as Trinaldo, who looked extremely focused, landed a hard left hand to the body. The Brazilian tried a couple of head kicks that were blocked, so he switched it up with a left kick to the body, which left Hallmann grimacing in pain. Trinaldo followed up up with another left kick to the body, which put the Polish fighter down on the mat, looking like it would be mere moments before the fight would have to be stopped.

Hallmann somehow survived and worked his way up, but ate a knee followed by another body kick on the way up.

Trinaldo executed a takedown and had his opponent trapped up against the cage, but Hallmann, who looked very close to being stopped, worked his way up in time to hear the bell.

Trinaldo launched another head kick to start round two, but Halllmann caught it and took him down. Trinaldo easily escaped and worked his way back to his feet. The Brazilian then dove for a leg, but Hallmann escaped his grasp and they clinched up against the cage. Trinaldo began working for a double-leg, as Hallmann threw some downward elbows of questionable legality. Hallmann ended up in Trinaldo’s half guard and landed more downward elbows, earning him a warning from the referee.

Hallmann – on the brink of losing in round one – worked for a Kimura from half guard, sunk it deep, and Trinaldo tapped out, stunning the Brazilian crowd into silence.
