UFC Fight Night 102 pre-fight facts: What do Derrick Lewis and Conor McGregor have in common?

The UFC returns to New York in short order after breaking a more than 20-year hiatus in the state this past month when UFC Fight Night 102 takes place Friday at Times Union Center in Albany.

The UFC Fight Pass-streamed card features a heavyweight clash in the main event. Derrick Lewis’ (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) looks to keep his winning streak going against unheralded Shamil Abdurakhimov (17-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in a matchup between fighters making their first respective UFC headliner.

Main event

Roy Nelson and Derrick Lewis

Lewis makes his 10th UFC heavyweight appearance since 2014, the most in the division and tied for fourth most among UFC fighters behind Neil Magny (12), Donald Cerrone (11), and Ross Pearson (11).

Lewis’ four-fight UFC winning streak in heavyweight competition is tied with Stipe Miocic for the longest active streak in the division.

Lewis has earned 14 of his 16 career victories by knockout. That includes six of his seven wins under the UFC banner.

Lewis’ six knockout victories in UFC competition since 2014 are tied with Conor McGregor the most among active fighters in the organization.

Lewis is the only fighter in history to have his first eight UFC appearances end in a knockout.

Lewis absorbs 1.18 significant strikes per minute in UFC heavyweight competition, tied with Jon Madsen for the best rate in divisional history.

Abdurakhimov makes his second UFC appearance in a 69-day stretch. He defeated Walt Harris by split decision at UFC Fight Night 96.

Abdurakhimov has earned his past four victories by decision, the longest stretch of his career without a finish.

Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou’s (8-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) three-fight UFC winning streak in heavyweight competition is tied for the third longest active streak in the division behind Miocic (four) and Lewis (four).

Ngannou has earned all eight of his career victories by stoppage. All three of his UFC victories are by knockout.

Ngannou’s three-fight knockout streak in UFC competition is tied for the third longest among active fighters behind Mairbek Taisumov (four) and Miocic (four).

Anthony Hamilton (15-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC), 36, is the oldest of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete at the event.

Hamilton has earned both of his UFC stoppage victories by knockout.

Hamilton’s 14-second knockout victory marked the second fastest knockout in UFC heavyweight history behind Todd Duffee’s seven-second win at UFC 102.

Hamilton hold the single-round UFC record for most significant body strikes landed with 49 in the second round against Ruan Potts at UFC 177.

Gian Villante and Anthony Perosh

Gian Villante (14-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC stoppage victories by knockout.

Villante is the only light-heavyweight fighter in UFC history to absorb 100 or more significant strikes in three consecutive fights.

Villante and Sean O’Connell combined for 202 significant strikes landed at UFC Fight Night 43, a three-round light-heavyweight record.

Villante’s knockout of Corey Anderson at the 4:18 mark of Round 3 at UFC on FOX 15 marked the second latest knockout in a three-round UFC light-heavyweight contest. Mauricio Rua’s victory over Mark Coleman at UFC 93 holds the record.

Villante defends 87.5 percent of all opponent takedown attempts in UFC light-heavyweight competition, tied with Ryan Jimmo for the second highest rate in divisional history behind Jon Jones (94.6 percent).

Corey Anderson (8-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has earned four of his five UFC victories by decision.

Anderson’s 61-second knockout of Matt Van Buren at the TUF 19 Finale stands as the fastest finish in a tournament final on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show.

Sean O'Connell (17-8 MMA, 2-4 UFC) and Villante combined for 202 significant strikes landed at UFC Fight Night 43, a single-fight record for a three-round UFC light-heavyweight bout.

O’Connell lands 6.14 significant strikes per minute in UFC light-heavyweight competition, the second highest output rate in divisional history behind Nikita Krylov (8.07).

Preliminary card

Trevor Smith

Trevor Smith (14-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has earned all four of his UFC victories by decision. He hasn’t stopped an opponent inside the distance since June 2012.

Smith lands 63.3 percent of his significant strike attempts in UFC middleweight competition, the highest rate in divisional history.

Tiago Trator (20-5-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) returns to competition for the first time since Sept. 5, 2015. The 461-day layoff is the longest of his more than seven-year career.

Marc Diakiese (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), 23, is the youngest of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete at the event.

Keith Berish (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) returns to competition for the first time since July 6, 2014. The 887-day layoff is the longest of his more than seven-year career.
