MELBOURNE, Australia – UFC middleweight contenders Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson each boast five-fight winning streaks heading into this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 101 event. A big win for either fighter could bring big opportunities.
Today, Whittaker (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Brunson (16-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) came (relatively) face-to-face at a media session promoting the fight card, which takes place Saturday (Sunday in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Despite the high stakes for the headlining bout, Whittaker and Brunson had little interesting in a pre-fight confrontation, simply running through the motions before leaving the stage.
Also taking their turn in the traditional pre-event staredowns were Jake Matthews (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) vs. Andrew Holbrook (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Daniel Kelly (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Chris Camozzi (24-11 MMA, 9-8 UFC).
