UFC 188 results: Patrick Williams violently chokes Alejandro Perez to sleep in 23 seconds

MEXICO CITY – A couple right hands, one very tight choke, and a total of 23 seconds from start to finish.

That’s how Patrick Williams (8-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) got his first UFC victory, putting Alejandro Perez (15-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to sleep with a guillotine choke.

The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 188 event at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. It aired on FX following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.

It was the right hand of Williams that put Perez in trouble almost immediately. One clean punch sent Perez backpedaling toward the fence, and a follow-up blow just as he reached the edge of the cage put him briefly on his backside.

That proved to be all the opening Williams needed to lock on the choke as Perez tried to scramble to his feet. Stuck in the guillotine with no way out, Perez tried to battle on, clearly not wanting to tap in front of a crowd of his countrymen.

But Williams wasn’t about to let go, and within seconds Perez’s limp body sunk to the floor, his back propped up by the fence. That’s where Williams left him, Perez’s eyes still open but seeing nothing, as Williams launched into a post-fight celebration that took at least as long as the bout itself.

The win is Williams’ first since suffering a devastating knockout via flying knee against Chris Beal at UFC 172 last April. The loss for Perez is his first in two fights with the UFC, and comes on the heels of a decision win in his UFC debut in November.
