Trevin Giles Looking to Remain Unbeaten Against Josh Clark at RFA 41

Over the course of his first two years as a professional fighter, middleweight up and comer Trevin Giles has managed to remain undefeated and pick up finishes in all six of his fights.

In particular, Giles feels his two wins this year have helped him get an idea of how he’s progressing. And while he’s making good strides forward, he feels he’s not even close to his personal ceiling yet.

“I feel my performances have gone pretty good as far as those two fights go,” Giles told MMAWeekly.com. “I didn’t get to train really well for either fight, but that being said, I was still successful in the fights and felt I performed pretty well.

“I do feel like I’m doing the things I want to do right now, but also I don’t think this is it or I’ve reached my prime yet. When I do get in a position of where I graduate from school, it will be a whole lot better for my training, so I’ll have even better fights and better performances.”

Originally Giles (6-0) was slated to face recent UFC signee Tom Gigliotti at RFA 41 in San Antonio, Texas, on July 29, but will now face Josh Clark (11-2) in the evening’s middleweight main event.

“It changes everything a little bit, but not really too much because I take the same approach towards everybody,” said Giles. “I am going from a shorter, stocky guy (in Gigliotti) to a longer, taller guy (in Clark).

“I think in order to win; I just have to be smart. Just play it smart and fight him like I fight everybody else. Just stay patient, stay smart, wait for him to make mistakes and finish him when he does.”

Getting a win over a veteran like Clark is important to Giles, because it helps him further see where he’s at in his development and will only help him show he’s ready for top opposition as he moves forward.

“I always like the competition,” Giles said. “Some people like to take easier fights and rack up wins on their record and it will look good on them, but I like to actually have a few tough fights.

“Most of my fights are against tough guys. I think it does help me gauge exactly where I am at in this port and shows me that I belong here with victories over these guys.”
