‘TUF 14’ Winner Diego Brandao vs. CFFC Champ Joey Gambino Tabbed for UFC 153 in Rio

Diego Brandao will get to fight on home soil come October for the first time in more than three years.

The featherweight winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 tweeted Monday that he’ll take on New Yorker Joey Gambino at UFC 153.

Set to take place Oct. 13 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, UFC 153 is expected to be headlined by a featherweight title bout, with divisional ace Jose Aldo defending against once-beaten Erik Koch. Also on the bill, former middleweight contender Vitor Belfort will face Alan Belcher and onetime light heavyweight champ Quinton Jackson will meet fast-rising Glover Teixeira.

A native of Manaus, Brazil, 25-year-old Brandao won his “TUF” title in December by submitting Dennis Bermudez, despite being known for his punching power during the show’s run. Brandao’s winning streak came to a halt in May, however, when he was outpointed by wrestler Darren Elkins. Brandao fights out of Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque, N.M., and has not competed in his home country since March 2009.

Gambino, 23, tasted defeat for the first time in his June Octagon debut, as he was forced to tap to a Steven Siler guillotine choke. Prior to the loss, the “Raging Warrior” had won nine straight starts, a run which saw him capture the featherweight title of New Jersey’s Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
