It will have been just under a year and a half when it happens, but the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix will finally reach its conclusion on May 19, according to Strikeforce officials.
Though they have yet to name a venue or location, finalists Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier will square off to determine the tournament winner.
Part of the delay has been Cormier. An injury replacement for Alistair Overeem, Cormier (9-0) defeated Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the tournament semifinal round, but broke his hand in the process.
Not wanting to change things up again for the finals, Strikeforce officials decided to wait for Cormier to heal.
Barnett (31-5) made his way to the final bout, easily submitting both Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov.
Barnett and Cormier will finally settle the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix on May 19.
