Shane Roller Calls it a Career Following Loss at UFC on FX 5

UFC fighter Shane Roller on Monday took to Twitter to announce his retirement from fighting.

“Looks like I’m hanging up the gloves for good. It was fun, but time to move on. Sux that it ended like that. Now startn the next chapter!!” he wrote.

Roller’s manager, Ted Ehrhardt, confirmed the news with MMAWeekly.com.

Ehrhardt didn’t want to speak outright for Roller – who hadn’t yet replied to a request for comment at the time of publication – but said that Roller was released by the UFC following Friday night’s loss to Jacob Volkmann.

“I think he felt like he gave it his best shot,” said Ehrhardt, who indicated that Roller has a Master’s Degree in Business and probably felt there were more reliable ways for him to provide for his family.

Roller started strong in his Zuffa tenure, amassing a 6-2 record in the WEC before moving to the Octagon when the promotion was absorbed by the UFC.

Things haven’t gone quite as well since the jump.

Roller won his first fight in the Octagon before falling into a three-fight skid. He bounced back with a win over John Alessio at UFC 148, but fell back on hard times with the loss to Volkmann.

Shane Roller’s career record stands at 11-7 overall.
