Ready to Fight Any Time Anywhere, George Sullivan Puts CFFC Belt on the Line Saturday Night

George Sullivan Pellegrino MMASeven years and 15 fights into his MMA career and Cage Fury Fighting Championships welterweight champion George Sullivan is feeling the best he’s ever been.

As evidence of such, Sullivan’s second-round TKO victory this past February over former Ultimate Fighter 16 cast member Julian Lane.

“I was a little cautious because he was coming out real wild in the first round, and I think I played it smart and once I got down his timing in the second round I hit him with some great shots and ended his day,” said Sullivan.

“I was in the best shape of my life and I just felt like there was nothing he could do.”

Sullivan’s confidence has been boosted by his work at former UFC lightweight Kurt Pelligrino’s gym in New Jersey. Since joining the gym, Sullivan has lost only once, as he continues to develop into an all-around fighter.

“I feel like I’m ready to go to the next level,” said Sullivan. “I feel unbeatable. I feel wherever (a fight) goes, I can stop it, and I feel like if I hit anyone, they’re going to fall asleep.

“I feel as my wrestling gets better, it allows me to strike more. I’m a striker, and anyone I’ve ever hit, I’ve knocked out. I just feel like I keep a fight on the feet, there’s nobody that’s going to be able to stop me.”

Sullivan sees much the same for his upcoming 170-pound title defense at CFFC 24 on Saturday at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., against up and comer Brandon Becker.

“I don’t think he’s fought anybody on my level,” said Sullivan of Becker. “I think I’m the first guy he’s fought who knows how to wrestle.

“He’s dangerous because he’s able to stall and take you do, so if I stop his wrestling, he’s in trouble. He’s not going to out-strike me, he’s not going to be stronger than me, and I just feel like overall I’m beyond what he is. I’m not saying he’s a bad fighter, I just don’t the he has the tools that I have.”

Having felt the crush of putting too much pressure on his own shoulders to succeed as fast as possible, Sullivan has backed off of late and now enjoys fighting for what it is and lets whatever opportunities come his way come in a more natural way.

“The goal used to be I had to get to the UFC, but I put too much pressure on myself,” he said.

“I like fighting for Cage Fury and I’m enjoying fighting now. I’m in no rush to get fights. I’ll fight anytime they need me to fight. I’m just enjoying it.”
