Olympic Silver Medalist McMann’s Debut Delayed Again

Sara McMann’s professional mixed martial arts debut has been delayed yet again, and the Olympic silver medalist will not compete Saturday under the Extreme Challenge banner.

McMann broke the news on Friday via Facebook, stating that it was unlikely that she would compete as scheduled at the Quad-Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf, Iowa.

“So, they can’t find my opponent now. She won’t answer calls, texts, or emails. I don’t even know what to say anymore,” McMann wrote. “Unless there is a miracle, I am not fighting this weekend in Iowa. Sorry to all the people who were planning on coming or watching on T.V.”

Sherdog.com later confirmed with McMann that the fight had indeed been scrapped.

“It’s definitely off,” McMann said. “They looked everywhere for a replacement, and no one said yes.”

McMann was supposed to face Mariah Johnson at the event. A silver medalist in freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympics, McMann is the only American woman to accomplish such a feat. The 30-year-old recently signed a three-fight contract with Strikeforce, though the fighter asserts there has been no word on when she might debut with the promotion.
