The UFC found a fighter, and welterweight newcomer Randy Brown has found a fight on MMA’s biggest stage.
Brown (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), an undefeated 170-pound prospect, has signed with the UFC and is slated to meet Matt Dwyer (8-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC on FOX 18.
The matchup was revealed on Saturday’s UFC 195 broadcast, in anticipation of the release of the newest edition of “Lookin’ for a Fight,” a Web series starring UFC President Dana White.
UFC on FOX 18 takes place Jan. 30 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Brown caught the eye of White during ROC 53, where he scored a first-round knockout victory over Robert Plotkin on Nov. 20. It marked the 25-year-old Jamaican fighter’s sixth stoppage in six career wins, all of which come via before the third round.
He now meets Dwyer, a 26-year-old Canadian who’s just 1-2 in the UFC but has picked up two fight-night bonuses. After a head-kick knockout loss to Albert Tumenov in his promotional debut, Dwyer scored a superman-punch knockout of William Macario for a “Performance of the Night” award, and he then dropped a decision to Alan Jouban in a “Fight of the Night” effort.
