Former WEC featherweight champion Miguel Torres (43-7) will fight Bellator MMA vet Desmond Green (11-3) later this month in Titan FC 31’s co-headliner.
Titan FC officials today confirmed the fight with MMAjunkie.
Titan FC 31 takes place Oct. 31 at USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla., with a main card on CBS Sports Network. In the headliner, former UFC fighters Mike Ricci and Yoshiyuki Yoshida fight for the vacant lightweight title.
“We signed Desmond Green because of his tremendous athleticism and wanted his first fight in the Titan FC hexagon to be extremely memorable,” Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson said in a statement sent to MMAjunkie. “He was in a very talented featherweight division while competing for Bellator and was a Season 10 tournament runner-up. Putting him against Miguel Torres, who is a former WEC champion and is currently riding a three fight winning streak, makes this the ultimate #FansFightersFirst matchup. In my opinion Green-Torres has ‘Fight of the Night’ written all over it.”
The UFC booted Torres, a WEC champ from 2008-2009, in 2012 following a 2-2 record, and he then went 0-2 with WSOF. However, the 33-year-old returned to the regional scene and is now riding a three-fight winning streak. Additionally, he was recently booked to fight at Legacy FC’s debut kickboxing event on Jan. 16.
Green, meanwhile, makes his first post-Bellator appearance after going 3-2 with the promotion and posting a recent runner-up finish in the Season 10 featherweight tournament. Prior to the loss to Daniel Weichel, the 24-year-old New Yorker had strung together three straight wins and was on an overall 5-1 run.
