Lightweight Attraction: Lauzon-Guillard Added to Growing UFC 136 Bill

The UFC 136 dance card continues to develop and deepen, as the promotion on Friday announced that a lightweight scrap between Melvin Guillard and Joe Lauzon will go down Oct. 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Headlined by a recently announced main event between Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar, UFC 136 will also feature a pivotal middleweight tilt featuring Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, as well as a heavyweight showdown pitting Dave Herman against Mike Russow.

Lauzon, 27, has split his last four bouts. The Massachusetts native debuted with the promotion in 2006, upsetting Jens Pulver with a first-round knockout at UFC 63. Most recently, Lauzon rebounded from a November submission defeat to George Sotiropoulos by submitting Curt Warburton just weeks ago at UFC Live 4. Coincidentally, Lauzon finished Warburton with a kimura -- the same hold Sotiropoulos applied to defeat “J-Lau” last year.

Riding a massive wave of momentum, Guillard (Pictured; file photo) has looked razor-sharp of late. Now training with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, N.M., “The Young Assassin” has won five straight fights and eight of his last nine. Displaying an accurate striking game and excellent takedown defense, Guillard has fought impressively in 2011, knocking out prospect Evan Dunham in January before doing the same to Shane Roller at UFC 132 on July 2.
