Junior Assuncao continued on his quest to the top with another win last week in Brazil. Assuncao traveled to his home in Recife to face Wes Murch in Recife Fighting Championship 4. Murch proved to be no match for the jiu-jitsu black belt, as he finished Murch with a firs-round rear naked choke.
Assuncao is now 12-4, trying to make a return to the UFC on the heels of a six-fight winning streak. He hasn’t lost a fight since May of 2008.
Before the fight with Murch, Assuncao took his camp to the Hardcore Gym in Athens, Ga., where Adam and Rory Singer honed his already sharp skills to an edge. It was also during this time that he found that he could cut to 145 pounds with ease.
Assuncao has already begun training for his next fight, wherever that may be. He hopes to ride his current winning streak straight to the UFC, where he plans to do damage in the scrappy featherweight division.
With his brother Raphael already in the big show, his other brother Freddy shining at the recent TUF 14 tryouts, and Junior continuing to win over and over again, is it possible we could be looking at the first trio of brothers fighting all at one time and in the same division in the UFC?
