Jeremy Stephens Replaces Injured Yves Edwards, Faces ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC on Fuel 3

Hard-hitting lightweight Jeremy Stephens has answered the call, stepping in for an injured Yves Edwards to meet Donald Cerrone at UFC on Fuel TV 3.

Sherdog.com confirmed the change with a source close to the bout on Tuesday evening. MMAJunkie.com first reported the development. Headlined by a pivotal featherweight attraction between rising talents Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung, the May 15 event takes place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.

Stephens (Pictured), 25, is known for his punching power, posting 14 of his 20 career wins by knockout. The “Lil’ Heathen” has compiled a 7-6 Octagon record since debuting with the promotion in 2007, dropping a split decision to Anthony Pettis in his last UFC appearance this past October. The defeat ended a two-fight winning streak for the Iowan, who owns notable victories over Cole Miller, Rafael dos Anjos, Sam Stout and Marcus Davis.

Formerly a staple of World Extreme Cagefighting, Cerrone has fared well in the Octagon since joining the UFC one year ago. “Cowboy” recently saw a six-fight winning streak snapped when he was bested by Nate Diaz at UFC 141, falling via unanimous decision on Dec. 30. A former WEC title challenger, the Jackson’s MMA representative owns 13 of his 17 career victories by submission.
