Isaac Vallie-Flagg Forced Out of UFC 161 Bout With Sam Stout Due to Injury

Isaac Vallie-Flagg UFC 156UFC lightweight Isaac Vallie-Flagg has been forced out of his scheduled UFC 161 bout with Sam Stout due to a back injury.

The 35-year-old announced the news via Twitter on Wednesday.

“Sorry to the fans and @SammyJstout for having to pull out of the fight, it was honor to be matched against a guy like Sam,” wrote Vallie-Flagg.

Vallie-Flagg suffered a back and hip injury while preparing for the June 15 match-up.

“I have a compressed disk in my back and a muscle has torn off my hip waiting to hear how bad both the injuries are and if i need surgery,” he wrote.

It was already a less-than-ideal training camp for Vallie-Flagg.  When the training camp began, he received news that his father was diagnosed with cancer.

“My camp started with the news of my dad being diagnosed with cancer and being hospitalized with complications and ended with an injury,” he tweeted.

The Greg-Jackson-trained Vallie-Flagg made his UFC debut on Feb. 2 against Yves Edwards, winning by split decision.  He has won 11 of his last 12 fights.

UFC 161 takes place on June 15 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is headlined by a light heavyweight match-up between former champion Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson.

A replacement for Vallie-Flagg has not yet been announced, and it’s unclear whether Stout will remain on the card.
