We’re finally within a month to go to UFC 149 in Calgary, but the fight card continues to change.
The most significant bump came recently when UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had to back off the card due to an injury. That caused UFC officials to move the interim bantamweight championship bout between Urijah Faber and Renan Barão from UFC 148 on July 7 to the UFC 149 main event slot on July 21.
The latest victim of the injury bug is George Roop, who fell victim during training camp. His withdrawal opened the door for Daniel Pineda to fight Antonio Carvalho. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the featherweight match-up, according to UFC officials.
Pineda (17-8) is coming off of a loss to Mike Brown at UFC 146 at the end of May. He was on a seven-fight winning streak prior to the loss, and will be looking to Carvalho as an opportunity to get back on track.
