In the Wake of UFC 176 Cancellation, UFC Officials Start Moving Bouts to Other Cards

Danny CastilloFor just the second time in the promotion’s 21-year history, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has cancelled a pay-per-view event.

Word had filtered through the media over the past weekend that the company was considering the cancellation of UFC 176: Aldo vs. Mendes II, and UFC officials on Tuesday made it official, having determined there was no time to secure a suitable main event after Jose Aldo withdrew due to injury.

With the event’s cancellation, officials are scrambling to reschedule the other UFC 176 bouts for other fight cards.

Four bouts quickly found new homes on Wednesday morning.

A lightweight bout pitting Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson and middleweight fight between Derek Brunson and Lorenz Larkin shifted to UFC 177: Dillashaw vs. Barao II, the Aug. 30 pay-per-view event at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

Two more lightweight bouts, Tony Martin vs. Beneil Dariush and James Vick vs. Walmir Lazaro, have landed on the UFC Fight Night 49: Henderson vs. dos Anjos fight card on Aug. 23 in Tulsa, Okla.

There are several more bouts that have yet to find a new home, so stay tuned to MMAWeekly.com to find out where they end up.
