Horodecki Draws ‘Bonesaw’ as September Opponent in Ontario

Canadian lightweight Chris Horodecki will try for a second consecutive win in his home province of Ontario when he meets Albertan “Bonesaw” Brad Cardinal on Sept. 10.

The matchup was announced Monday as the main event of Freedom Fight “For Honor and Pride,” which takes place at Sudbury Community Arena in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. MM-eh.ca first reported Horodecki’s participation last week.

No other bouts have been confirmed for the show, Freedom Fight’s first since July 2008 and the first to be scheduled in Sudbury since Ontario legalized MMA in August.

Horodecki (Pictured), 23, was released by Zuffa in December following a 2-2 run inside the blue confines of World Extreme Cagefighting. The Shawn Tompkins pupil sandwiched wins over Danny Downes and Ed Ratcliff between stoppage losses to Anthony Njokuani and Donald Cerrone, the latter coming via triangle choke at WEC 53. In his April 2 return to action, Horodecki submitted David Castillo 4:24 into their meeting at “MMA: The Reckoning” in Rama, Ontario.

Fighting out of BDB Martial Arts in Calgary, the 32-year-old Cardinal has emerged victorious from nine of his last 10 outings, finishing eight opponents in that span. Most recently, on May 6, he claimed the Wreck MMA lightweight title with a technical submission of Jesse Gross via third-round rear-naked choke. Before he meets Horodecki, however, Cardinal is expected to take on Michigan’s Daron Cruickshank at the inaugural offering from Slammer in the Hammer in Hamilton, Ontario.
