Heavyweight Tourney Finale Heads Bellator 62

It’s official. Bellator has moved its Heavyweight Tournament finals to Bellator 62 at Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas this Friday night.

Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos already fought once, during Season 5, but their bout ended in a “no contest,” leaving Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad without a challenger.

They were again scheduled to fight last week in the Bellator 61 main event, but the fight was nixed at the last minute when Prindle came down with flu-like symptoms.

Prindle and Santos will give it another go, headlining the card at Bellator 62.

“I’m just ready to get into the cage and end this,” Prindle said in Monday’s Bellator announcement. “I’m a warrior and want my shot against Konrad.”

With $100,000 and a title shot on the line, it’s no surprise that Santos believes he will be the one to win on Friday night.

“Now I’ve just got one more week to train and one more week to think about winning,” Santos said. “It sounds like Eric may have been sick, and I don’t want to fight with any excuses. I want to beat him at 100 percent.”

Not only will Bellator 62 decide Konrad’s next title opponent, but the Laredo card will also feature the quarterfinals of Bellator’s Season 6 Lightweight Tournament as well a host of Texas’ top MMA talent.
