Heavyweight Stefan Struve going swimming with sharks in Australia after UFC 193

MELBOURNE, Australia – Apparently, getting in the UFC’s octagon and engaging in hand-to-hand combat isn’t enough of a thrill for Stefan Struve’s fall schedule.

The UFC heavyweight told MMAjunkie that after he fights Jared Rosholt on Saturday at UFC 193, he’s going to look a school of sharks in the face.

“You’re missing the most important thing,” Struve (26-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) said. “I’m going to be in a cage.”

An underwater cage, that is, which resides in Port Lincoln, Australia, a three-hour flight from his job fighting Jared Rosholt (13-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC). The two meet in the UFC 193 pay-per-view opener at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

According to his manager, Lex McMahon, only a few companies offer such an excursion, and the two of them wanted to check this one off the bucket list.

Struve is a fighter first and foremost, but he’s loved sharks forever.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “I’ve always been intrigued with sharks, and just getting in there and seeing those things in their habitat, coming at you, with a cage.”

Usually, Struve gets in a cage to keep his work from endangering the public. But this time, the cage is protecting him.
