Harris Released After UFC 123 Defeat

Gerald Harris lost one fight, and now he's out of a job.

On Nov. 20, Harris dropped a unanimous decision to Chute Boxe product Maiquel Jose Falcao Goncalves at UFC 123 in suburban Detroit. On Tuesday, the promotion informed Harris that he had been released. Sherdog confirmed the news with Harris via text message on Tuesday evening.

Prior to his defeat to Falcao, Harris was 3-0 in the UFC and had earned “Knockout of the Night” bonuses in two of his three bouts with the promotion. His most recent outing, a third-round TKO over Dave Branch, ended in a spectacular slam that relieved Branch of his consciousness and earned the powerful Harris an extra $75,000.

Harris was a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 7” and defeated Mike Marrello to earn himself a spot in the house. He was then defeated by eventual season winner Amir Sadollah in the next round. After his time on the show, Harris dominated his competition on the smaller circuit -- including winning the Shark Fights middleweight title last year -- before finally becoming an official member of the UFC talent pool. Before losing to Falcao, the Grudge Training Center product had rifled off 10-straight victories.

Though Harris confirmed his release from the UFC, he declined to comment when asked about his feelings on the matter.
