Georges St-Pierre “Flattered” by Ronda Rousey’s Comments, Says She’s a “Beautiful Woman” as Well

Leave it to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to spin a negative comment about him into gold.

Over the last several months, St-Pierre’s name has been mentioned on more than a few occasions by UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey on a varied list of subjects.

First, there was St-Pierre’s opinion that he wasn’t a big fan of watching women’s fights, which in turn got a reaction from Rousey, who is the top ranked female fighter in the world. Then when St-Pierre’s name came up in a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Rousey unleashed a tirade on the UFC’s reigning welterweight champion.

When asked for her opinion on St-Pierre, Rousey stated that she’s not a huge fan of his fighting style, and how his fame is boosted by two major factors – he’s Canadian and he’s a good looking guy.

“I respect Georges St-Pierre as a businessman and an athlete. I don’t have anything against him personally. But he’s not the kind of fighter I like watching. He fights to win matches. He doesn’t fight to defeat his opponents,” said Rousey.

“Everybody keeps coming up to me and saying, ‘Oh, do you think if you didn’t look such a way, people would like you so much?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, if GSP was butt ugly, you wouldn’t want to know who he is so much.’ I think he lucked out a lot that he’s Canadian. I love Canadians. They are the coolest, nicest, most patriotic people, and they will support their countrymen no matter what, and I think that’s commendable, but if GSP wasn’t really good-looking, and really Canadian, he would be really unknown,” stated Rousey.

So on Wednesday during at UFC 158 pre-fight press conference, Rousey’s comments came up when a reporter asked Georges St-Pierre for his reaction.

He handled it with his typical grace and finesse, and even managed to pay Rousey a compliment along the way.

“It’s very flattering for her to say that I’m a good looking guy and I want to say she’s a very beautiful woman as well,” St-Pierre said.

“I feel very flattered.”

As two of the UFC’s most popular and marketable stars, expect more questions to come up to both St-Pierre and Rousey with both having fights coming up in the next couple of months.
