Francis Carmont appreciates his upcoming opponent’s style, even if he could fall prey to it when they meet in the octagon.
Carmont (22-8 MMA, 6-1 UFC) faces C.B. Dollaway (14-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 41 and called his knockout of Cezar Ferreira “f–king good” because it was right to the point.
“It made for a very good strategy,” he told MMAjunkie. “He waited for a good moment and the opportunity to punch Cezar in the face and wasn’t afraid about him.”
Fighting without fear is something pretty much every fighter aspires to, but for Frenchman Carmont, it’s perhaps the best answer to the criticism he’s received in his UFC career.
Although his 2011 debut against Karlos Vemola brought praise from the MMA cognoscenti, Carmont’s subsequent performances were not the stuff of legend.
Coupled with a loss to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in his most recent performance, Carmont could really use a 39-second KO to revitalize his career.
“I’m furious,” Carmont said of his recent loss, “but it’s good the UFC gave me a quick fight in two months. I’m very excited for how I can make a comeback for a victory.
“I lost my last fight because I didn’t control the distance. I let him break the distance and take me down. If I was careful, maybe I would have won the fight. But it’s a fight.”
At the end of the month, Carmont gets back to work when he meets Dollaway on the main card of the May 31 event at the O2 Berlin. The card streams in full on UFC Fight Pass in the U.S.
“I’m very hungry to fight, and I thank the UFC to give me a fight with C.B.,” he said. “It’s the first time I’m going to Berlin for a fight, and it’s not that far from Paris. For sure, I’m going to go to Paris to see my family and friends.”
Carmont has never been stopped by punches in a 30-fight career, so he’ll be watching for Dollaway’s early blitz. The two share the ability to takedown and grind out opponents, which frequently portends a slugfest.
“He’s a guy who can do anything in a fight,” Carmont said of Dollaway. “His wrestling; he can push a fight. This guy comes to fight. People don’t know, but this guy is very underrated. He knocked out Cezar Ferreira.”
