After initially unveiling a pair of title fights, June’s UFC 199 event has a new non-title addition.
UFC officials today announced, via dailynews.com, a lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier (19-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) and Bobby Green (23-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC).
UFC 199 takes place June 4 at The Forum in Los Angeles. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
Poirier is No. 15 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings. Green is just outside the top 15.
Since a loss to then-rising featherweight contender Conor McGregor in 2014, Poirier has returned to the lightweight division and found success. The 27-year-old rebounded from the McGregor loss with knockout wins over Carlos Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros (both of which earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses), as well as a decision victory over Joseph Duffy. He’s now 6-1 over his past seven fights.
Green, meanwhile, is a former Strikeforce fighter who won his first four UFC fights, which included a “Submission of the Night” win over Jacob Volkmann in his 2013 promotional debut. However, the 29-year-old most recently suffered a decision loss to Edson Barboza and snapped an overall eight-fight winning streak.
