Did Joanna Jedrzejczyk pull off the best sight gag trash talk in MMA history?

Using a fighter’s name, or nickname, as fodder for pre-fight trash talk has been done before.

Earlier this spring, Sarah Kaufman used her Instagram account to call for a rematch with Miesha “Cupcake” Tate – by showing a close-up of a cupcake she then smashed with her right fist before proclaiming, “Don’t be scared, ‘Cupcake.'”

Kaufman beat Tate by unanimous decision in a 2009 Strikeforce fight. Her video trash talk sight gag didn’t pay off, though. Tate will fight Jessica Eye on the co-main event of UFC on FOX 16 in July in Chicago.

But hey, it sure was fun. But earlier this week, UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk may have topped it.

Jedrzejczyk went on her Twitter account and showed herself getting ready to eat some penne pasta … in advance of her title defense against Jessica Penne. Pretty clever, right?

Jedrzejczyk (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who won the strawweight title in March, meets Penne (12-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 69 main event on Saturday at O2 World Berlin in Germany’s capital city. The entire card streams on UFC Fight Pass. The champ is a 7-1 favorite to win the fight.

So what do you think? Did Jedrzejczyk’s sight gag top the one Kaufman used to try to lure Tate in May? Vote in our poll below.
