Demetrious Johnson Reveals TUF 24 Finale Knee Injury | MMAWeekly.com

Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson defended his title for the ninth time at The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale, defeating Tim Elliot by unanimous decision. If he successfully defends the belt in his next outing, Johnson will have tied Anderson Silva‘s record for the most consecutive title defenses in UFC history with ten.

For the first time in his UFC tenure, Johnson has a demand for his next fight. He wants to match Silva’s record in Las Vegas.

I want to match the record in Vegas,” Johnson said on The MMA Hour. “In all of my years fighting in UFC, this is the first time I’m putting my foot down and saying I’m gonna fight a Vegas fight.”

The next scheduled UFC event in Sin City takes place in March, but that’s likely too soon for Johnson to be back in action. “Mighty Mouse” believes he suffered a knee injury during his fight against Elliot. An MRI later this week will provide a definitive answer about the extent of the damage.

Demetrious-Johnson-UFC-191-LA-Lunch-02“I’m gonna go get an MRI possibly Tuesday or Wednesday. I think I might have a little tear in my LCL in my right knee. It happened in the first round when we were grappling,” said Johnson. “I heard a little pop. I think I might have popped or (have a) tear in my LCL. It feels fine now, but I had a tear in my left knee. I know the feeling of it. It’s still swollen right now. Once the swelling goes down, I’m gonna get an MRI, just to make sure. I’d rather be safe than sorry.”

Johnson is certain that he injured the knee, but is confident that the LCL isn’t completely torn.

“I know it’s not completely torn, but I know something is wrong with my LCL. I subconsciously, I felt it pop. That’s the right knee, something’s wrong in there,” he said.

The injury didn’t affect his performance against Elliot. It was something that he noticed and then put in the back of his mind during the fight.

“Adrenalin takes over. When it popped, I was like alright, fun, fun,” said the flyweight champion.
