Dana White nearly left Ronda Rousey's 'Do-Nothing B-tch' on cutting-room floor

A clip featuring the debut of a catchphrase that’s become synonymous with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was nearly left on the cutting-room floor, according to UFC President Dana White.

On an episode of “UFC Embedded” prior to Rousey’s most recent fight against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Brazil, “Rowdy” delivered a speech in which she denounced certain females as “Do-Nothing B-tches.”

“I have this one term for the kind of woman my mother raised me not to be, and I call it a ‘Do-Nothing Bitch,’ or a ‘DNB,'” Rousey said. “It’s the kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by somebody else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious when people say that my body looks masculine or something.

“I just say, ‘Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than f-cking millionaires, doesn’t mean it’s masculine. I think it’s femininely badass as f-ck because there isn’t a single muscle on my body that doesn’t have a purpose because I’m not a ‘Do-Nothing B-tch.”

Once footage of Rousey’s speech aired, the “Do-Nothing B-tch” catchphrase caught on in the mainstream. Rousey designed custom T-shirts with the slogan and reportedly sold more than 50,000 of them in the weeks following her 34-second knockout win over Correia.

It gained even more momentum this month when superstar singer Beyonce used Rousey’s speech during a recent concert in New York City. White said that type of crossover proves the power of Rousey’s celebrity. Moreover, it showed the impact of her speech, which White said he nearly stopped from making the final draft of “UFC Embedded.”

“Beyonce just literally took those quotes this last weekend in her ‘Made in America’ concert and basically ran this whole Ronda Rousey clip in her concert about this,” White today told Colin Cowherd on FOX Sports Radio. “Apparently there’s a movie being made about it now. I was literally sitting in the edit bay wondering if I should even let this air. We put it out, and now it’s the biggest thing happening with women.”

Rousey said she wasn’t aware her “rant” would turn into something that would sell thousands of shirts and be used as a way to empower women. She did, however, admit she feels honored by the fact her speech has registered such a widespread impact.

“To be honest, it’s a honor to have a real powerhouse of a woman like Beyonce just recognize my existence,” Rousey told etonline.com. “It’s surreal how something I thought was a pre-fight rant in my hotel room that would end up scrapped on some editor’s floor has taken off to the point a cultural icon like Beyonce is playing it between songs at her concert. Such a huge compliment. I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) next fights Nov. 14, when she meets Holly Holm (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in UFC 193’s pay-per-view main event in Melbourne.
