A featherweight bout between longtime UFC fighters Clay Guida (32-15 MMA, 12-9 UFC) and Thiago Tavares (19-6-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) has joined UFC Fight Night 77’s lineup.
UFC-Brazil Senior Vice President and General Manager Giovani Decker today announced the bout.
UFC Fight Night 77 takes place Nov. 7 at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo. The event is expected to air on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Guida, who’s an honorable mention in the NOS Energy Drink MMA featherweight rankings, and Tavares, who’s unranked, will likely be part of the main card.
Since a four-fight winning streak that earned him a lightweight title-eliminator in 2011, Guida is 3-4 while facing many of the featherweight division’s most notable names. The 33-year-old, who’s won nine fight-night bonuses in 21 career UFC fights, is 2-1 over his past three bouts with decision victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Robbie Peralta and a submission defeat to Dennis Bermudez.
He now meets Tavares, who’s won six fight-night bonuses in 16 career UFC fights. The 30-year-old Brazilian was on a 4-1 run – the defeat came to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Tavares ultimately failed a drug test due to drostanolone – before a recent TKO loss to Brian Ortega. Prior to the setback, Tavares made a successful featherweight debut with a submission victory over Robbie Peralta.
